Attended a church service at the Emmanuel Baptist Church.....very nice service in English. The maid's daughter and I walked to it. Had a mixture of old hymns like Martin Luther's "A Mighty Fortress is our Lord"...with the young minister conducting everyone from the pulpit...to some modern ones I didn't recognize accompanied by electric guitars, drums and the elctronic keyboard played by someone who with his little beard (so muslim)looked like a recent convert!!...The singing from the congregation of about a 60 people was some of the most powerful I have heard in a very long time....no wimpy singers here. No choirs are needed in this church. Unfortunately, we were expecting company for lunch, so we couldn't stay and talk with too many people, but they seemed like a nice lot of people....except the service was two hours long (quite normal for a Baptist church I am sure).
We had a number of people for lunch...and spent a leisurely afternoon chatting and sipping on nimboo pani. Later, Radhika the girl from next door (she rents the cottage on the grounds)brought me two packages of tea from her parents tea estate in Assam. She says it is very strong tea...so take it easy. Evryone in Kamloops who is reading this blog is welcome to come over and try it when I get home.
